Coordinating with Your RC
Strong teamwork leads to effective recruiting. Use this lesson to clarify expectations and coordinate with your RC on key topics. The list below isn’t exhaustive but is intended to spark productive pre-season conversations so you can prepare your JRLs well.
- Using a JRT (Judge Recruitment Team)
- JRL Only: The Judge Recruitment Lead manages all recruiting responsibilities.
- JRL + JR Team Members: The JRL works alongside additional team members who assist with:
- Recruiting Tasks
- Debate Finals
- Onsite Help
- Copying the Master Folder
- Verify whether your RC has already created a JR/JRL tournament folder in Google Drive.
- If not, determine whether they would like you to create the folder and add both the RC and JRL as editors.
- Approaching Debate Finals
- Recommended guidelines for a debate panel
- Aim for overall balance in your selection.
- Suggested composition (total of 5 judges:
- 2 community
- 2 parents (current and/or alumni)

- Do you want a larger panel for the regional championship?
- Reassigning Any JRL Tasks
Clarify with your RC if they would like you to handle any responsibilities normally assigned to the JRL.
-
- Possible reassigned tasks include:
- Adjusting judge caps
- Updating the judge tracker or referral information
- Removing designated adults from assigned rounds
- Coordinating debate finals
- Recruiting judges
- Moving judges into the correct rounds
- Writing bios and scripts
- Handling Designated Adult Registrations
