Judge Recruitment

Training for RJRC, JRL, and JRT

Understanding Your RJRC Role & Resources

The RJRC helps coordinate and strengthen judge recruitment across the region.

  • Works with JRLs to guide and support community judge recruitment efforts
  • Reports to the RC and NJRC (National Judge Recruitment Coordinator)

The RJRC has two key responsibilities which will be addressed in the following lessons.

  • Prepare for the Season
    • Assist with overall regional planning and coordination related to judge recruitment
    • Prepare documentation and resources for each of their region’s tournaments
  • Train & Support the JRLs
    • Communicate goals and recruitment strategies to local JRLs
    • Train JCs on the use of the portal, dashboard, and available resources
    • Encourage JRLs in their role

In addition to supporting judge recruitment efforts within their region, RJRCs may also be asked to serve as a JRL or as part of a Judge Recruitment Team (JRT) for National Opens or the National Championship.

Several tools and resources will be available to help the RJRC.

A description of each resource is listed below, but instructions on how and when to use many of them are found in later lessons.

  • RJRC Regional Email Address

An NCFCA.org email address and password will be set up and emailed to you. After this email address is set up, all updates, meeting links and other important information will be sent to this email so it should be regularly monitored. Please use this email when communicating with and about judge coordinating matters. Please do not use this email for personal matters.

  • NCFCA Staff Dashboard
    • You will login with your own NCFCA user ID and password at https://ncfca-staff.ncfca.org/
    • There are two areas that are especially helpful for the RJRC and JRL. In order to be able to help the JRL, please become very familiar with the new staff dashboard when able.
      • Setup - the Gear Cog : First, once logged in, click on the gear clog labeled “Setup” in the top left (refresh if you do not see it) and click on your region and tournament.
        • Updates coming soon…
      • Competition - the Shield: Second, when you click on the shield labeled "Competition” (also in the top left, under the gear clog), you will find the tournaments listed on the left-hand side. If you click your tournament’s name, you will enter the dashboard for that specific tournament.
        • This area is most useful while a tournament is in progress. However, it’s best to familiarize yourself with it before the first tournament begins. The following list highlights the sections most relevant to an RJRC or JRL.
        • Updates coming soon…
          • Send Notifications
          • Judge Tracking
          • Reports
  • JR LMS Module

The Judge Recruiting (JR) Learning Management System (LMS) training module replaces the former “booklet” guide.

    • As an RJRC, you should familiarize yourself with all lessons so you’re prepared to assist the JRL as needed.
    • Occasionally, the Judge Recruitment LMS will be updated. When this occurs, the NJRC will email RJRCs—and JRLs if applicable—to provide notification.
  • RJRC Meetings

The NJRC will hold regular meetings that include training on how to use provided resources and the staff dashboard. These meetings will also feature updates, “how-to” tips, and opportunities to discuss best practices with other RJRCs. Live participation is highly encouraged; however, recordings will be available afterward in the RJRC Info Hub.

This document uses the Google Docs “tab” feature to organize everything shared with RJRCs during the year. You’ll find meeting agendas, recordings, and the former “New & Hot Log” (now called “Updates”), along with quick links to key resources. Your RC will also have access to this document.

It’s important to become familiar with the information and resources available to judges so you can help the JRL respond to questions and guide community judges effectively.

While it doesn’t include every task or detail, this timeline provides an overview of the entire recruiting process and will help guide you and your JRL through each stage of the tournament—from start to finish. In addition, this 2025 RJRC Timeline of Action Items could also serve as a resource.
