Using Google Chat Space for Tab Support (Tab Lead)

Accessing the Google Chat Space for Tab Support

  • Tab Leads need to access the Google Chat Space for Tab Support. A Google account is required.
  • If your NCFCA login email is not a Google account, please provide a Google account email address to Office@NCFCA.org at least 3 days prior to the start of your first tournament of the season.

Tips and good practices for using Google Chat Spaces

  • The Space can be accessed through your Google email account on a computer and through the Google Chat app on your mobile device.
  • Be sure to set notifications to “All” or “Main Conversation” the day before your tournament begins. (Notifications can be set to “For Me” or “None” when not serving in a tournament.)
  • Check the space periodically to make sure you haven’t missed a notification.
  • Tag the person you need by typing “@” followed by their name and select from the options given. For Tab Leads, this should typically be your primary point of contact (POC), who will identify themselves at the start of the tournament.
  • Respond in thread (using spool of thread icon) to continue a conversation on the same topic. This will keep the main conversation clean and unique topics easier to find.
  • Use student initials or team IDs when mentioning competitors. Avoid using their names in the chat.
  • Report when you are done for the night so your support team can feel confident that their help will not be needed for the remainder of the evening.

Troubleshooting & Reporting Concerns

  • In some cases, the tech solution could be as simple as logging out and back in, so that’s often a good place to start.
  • Confirm whether the problem is present  for everyone on the Tab Team.
  • Report any issues needing Tab Support assistance in a timely manner, noting the tournament, round, event, and room number in your report.
  • When in doubt, please ask Tab Support to verify a potential issue.
