Finalizing Debate & Speech Results
Requesting Clearance from Compliance (Tab Lead)
- Once all ballots for an event are in and all final round penalties have been applied and reviewed, the Tab Lead should ask the Compliance Lead if that event is clear to proceed to Awards.
- If Compliance applies a penalty, the Tab Lead must process and review that penalty before approving the round.
The Tab Lead must receive clearance from Compliance before approving the final round or any event in Finalize Debate or Finalize Speech.
Review & Approve Finalize Debate and Finalize Speech
- Once all ballots for debate or speech have been reviewed and verified by the Tab Team, clearance has been given by the Compliance Lead, and the final round for the event has been approved, the Tab Team should review results under Finalize Debate or Finalize Speech.
- The Tab Team should verify that Final Ranks of each event agree with the team’s rankings. If so, the Tab Lead should Finalize [Event]. If there is any discrepancy, the team should recheck their rankings. If the discrepancy remains, the Tab Lead should report the problem to the Tab Support POC immediately.
- For Speaker Awards in each style of debate, go to Reports, select See Speaker Awards Calculations, and review:
- No ineligible teams are receiving a Speaker Award. Teams which dropped during preliminary rounds, received a Loss of SP Award penalty, or were disqualified should not be receiving a speaker award.
- Spot-Check Values. As always, we are looking for reasonableness in the results. A team that received a speaker points penalty now receiving a speaker award should be scrutinized. Competitors affected by penalties, forfeits, or byes are good subjects for spot-checking.
- Verify Tie Breaks. Follow the logic of each tie break to confirm ties are being broken correctly.
Prepare Awards Announcement Sheets
- Select Reports, followed by Announcement Sheet.
- Be sure to include all events, debate Speaker Awards, All Around Awards, and (if a Regional or National Championship) Marathon and Ironman Awards.
- Verify that all awards announcement sheets are correct.
- For in-person tournaments:
- Print a copy of each event for the TD/RC and place in a folder or manilla envelope.
- For online tournaments:
- Save as PDF and share electronically according to the TD/RC’s preferences.
