Appendix A: Understanding Win Index
Most ties in win-loss records will be broken in Win Index or Quality Wins. To better understand these terms, consider the following example:
Team A won 4 preliminary rounds:
Round 1: LOST against Team B (who ultimately won 3 rounds)
Round 2: WON against Team C (who ultimately won 2 rounds)
Round 3: WON against Team D (who ultimately won 1 round)
Round 4: WON against Team E (who ultimately won 4 rounds)
Round 5: LOST against Team F (who ultimately won 5 rounds)
Round 6: WON against Team G (who ultimately won 3 rounds)
Team A's Quality Wins: 10 (the sum of a team's defeated opponents' wins)
Team A's Strength of Schedule: 18 (the sum of a team's 6 opponents' wins)
Team A's Win Index: 14 (the average of Quality Wins and Strength of Schedule)
